Jenny and Calum’s wedding saw us heading down to the English Riviera for a ceremony held in the atmospheric undercroft of gorgeous Torre Abbey, a fascinating building with a rich history that was first founded in the 12th century. After a £6 million overhaul in 2013, the building and its gardens have been restored to their former glory and are a truly wonderful place to get married!
After a touching and tasteful wedding ceremony, we battled against the weather in the early part of the day. Torrential rain interspersed with bright sun played havoc with our plans to shoot group portraits in the Abbey’s picturesque grounds. Fortunately, the wedding party didn’t let the weather dampen their spirits and we always come prepared for all eventualities, so we were able to get the shots we needed indoors before making the most of a break in the clouds to take the newlyweds on a short photographic tour of the grounds. We especially enjoyed shooting some romantic portraits in the Palm House, a Victorian-style glasshouse that was actually built in the 1960s before being lovingly restored during the recent renovations.
Thankfully, the rain dissipated as the day went on and we were treated to a dry evening for the reception at The Thatched Tavern, which was lucky as both the food and speeches were outside! Singer-songwriter Matt Sellors provided chilled out musical entertainment whilst the guests dined and mingled.
The Thatched Tavern is a lovely 400 year old village pub with a great reputation amongst Torbay locals. Its exposed flagstone floors, original wood beams and cosy, traditional interior make it a wonderful spot for an informal reception.
Finally, the guests and the couple danced the night away to local band Harbour.
On a day which served up both bright sun and pouring rain, Calum and Jenny didn’t let the weather ruin their big day and enjoyed a day filled with love, laughter, friends and family. It was a pleasure to be there to document the occasion and we wish them all the best for the future.
